Why Give?
Opportunities for charitable contributions abound and there are plenty of credible places to give. In fact, you might think Grace Crossing Church is just another charitable organization. According to the Bible, however, there’s one huge difference: our giving isn’t merely about charity. Giving is an expression of gratitude, obedience, and love for God. Plainly stated, giving is an act of our worship!
Throughout the Bible, God instructs us to give regularly, generously and sacrificially out of the abundance of all that He has entrusted to us. Everything we possess belongs to God, and He simply asks that we honor Him in the way we handle His resources. In fact, we will all one day give account for how we managed those things that didn’t belong to us!
God doesn’t need what we have, but we need the benefits that comes from this act of worship. According to Jesus, what we do with what we have directs our heart. Giving back to God reminds us that He owns everything we have and He alone can be counted on to meet every need we will ever have.
But why support the church financially? Because it’s the right thing to do? or, It’s a good tax write-off? Well to put it simply, it’s what God says to do. The Church is God’s plan to reconcile the world to himself through the “good news” of Jesus Christ. So we give to assist in the advancement of the message of Jesus through His church.
